Quick answer: Dubai visa validity and duration of stay are two different dates. A 30-day Dubai tourist visa is often valid for about 60 days so you can enter, while the stay after entry is 30 days. Enter before the validity date and leave before the stay ends. Your e-visa prints both fields, so read them before you book flights.
What Is the Difference Between Dubai Visa Validity and Duration of Stay?
A 30-day Dubai tourist visa is often valid for about 60 days so you can enter, while the stay after entry is 30 days. "Validity" is the entry window. It starts on the date of issue printed on your e-visa, and you must pass UAE immigration before it closes. "Duration of stay" is the number of days you may remain in the country. It starts on the day you enter, not the day the visa was issued. The two numbers do not add together. Holding a visa valid for 60 days does not give you 60 days inside Dubai. If the stay field says 30 days, you must exit, extend, or change status by day 30 after entry. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Dubai (GDRFA) issues these tourist entry permits through accredited tourism offices. As of October 2026 it lists a government fee of AED 200 plus 5% VAT for the 30-day single-entry tourist visa and AED 300 plus VAT for the 60-day version.
Most of the confusion starts when the e-visa PDF arrives. Travelers see "valid until" with a date two months away and assume they can stay until then. That mistake causes most of the accidental overstay fines we see from first-time visitors.

Validity windows can differ by product and by issuing system. Always use the exact dates printed on your own e-visa. The values above are typical, not a guarantee.
Does a 60-Day Validity Mean 60 Days Inside Dubai?
No. This is the single most important point on this page. The validity window controls when you can arrive. The duration of stay controls how long you can remain. A 30-day tourist visa with a 60-day validity still allows only 30 days in the UAE.
If you need two months in Dubai, for example to visit family, attend a long project meeting, or wait for a job interview, apply for a 60-day single-entry Dubai visa from the start. Extending a 30-day visa later usually costs more. The GDRFA tourist extension fee was AED 600 plus VAT in October 2026, plus extra inside-country service fees. An extension is also approved at the authority's discretion, so you cannot count on getting one.
When Does the Stay Period Start?
The stay starts when UAE immigration admits you. At Dubai International (DXB), Al Maktoum (DWC), or a land border, your entry is recorded electronically against the visa number, and that date becomes day 1.
- Day of entry counts. Land on 1 November on a 30-day visa, and 30 November is your last legal day.
- Arrival time does not matter. Landing at 23:50 still uses up that whole calendar day.
- Stay is not paused. On a single-entry visa, leaving the UAE ends the visa. You cannot "save" unused days.
- Multiple-entry visas let you exit and re-enter within the validity window, for example for a day trip to Oman. The total period and per-entry rules are printed on your permit. Read them before you plan a multi-country trip.
Can I Enter Dubai on the Visa Expiry Date?
The rule is simple: you must be admitted at immigration on or before the last date of entry. If you land on the final day and clear passport control that day, your full stay starts then.
We still recommend against cutting it that fine. Airlines check your visa at check-in, and many will not board a passenger whose visa expires before or during the flight. A delayed or overnight flight that lands after midnight UAE time can arrive one day too late, and immigration counts in UAE local time (GMT+4). Plan to land at least two or three days before the last date of entry. If your plans change and you miss the window, the visa lapses unused and you need a new one.
How to Read the Validity and Stay Fields on Your e-Visa
Your Dubai e-visa is a PDF entry permit issued by GDRFA. Before you book or change flights, take these steps:
- Match your identity. Your name, passport number, and nationality must match your passport bio page exactly.
- Find the date of issue. This is day zero for the validity window.
- Find the validity or "valid until" date. Write it down as your last date of entry.
- Find the duration of stay. It says 30 or 60 days for standard tourist visas.
- Check the entry type. Single entry ends when you exit. Multiple entry allows re-entry within validity.
- Calculate your exit deadline. Entry date + stay − 1 day. Book your return flight on or before that date.
Not sure what a field means? Message the visa desk with a photo of the PDF and we will read it back to you. You can also confirm the permit is genuine using our Dubai visa status check guide.
Worked Examples: Validity vs Stay in Real Dates
| Visa | Issued | Last date to enter | Entered | Must leave by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30-day single entry | 1 Oct 2026 | ~29 Nov 2026 | 10 Oct 2026 | 8 Nov 2026 |
| 30-day single entry | 1 Oct 2026 | ~29 Nov 2026 | 25 Nov 2026 | 24 Dec 2026 |
| 60-day single entry | 1 Oct 2026 | Printed date | 15 Oct 2026 | 13 Dec 2026 |
The second row matters most. Entering late in the window does not shorten the stay. You still get the full 30 days from entry, even if the "valid until" date has already passed while you are inside the UAE. Once you are admitted, the stay controls your exit date, not the validity.
What Happens If I Stay Past the Duration of Stay?
From the day after your stay ends, you are an overstayer. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) applies a daily fine for visit-visa overstays. Its published fee schedule has shown AED 50 per day, but check the current figure on icp.gov.ae before you rely on it. There is no automatic grace period for tourist visas.
- Fines are paid before you can leave, at the airport or through official channels.
- Long overstays can lead to an absconding case, deportation, and an entry ban.
- An overstay record can make future UAE visa applications harder, including ones made through an agency.
If you know you need more time, act before the last day. You can either extend the current visa from inside the UAE or exit and enter on a new visa. Some travelers use an airport-to-airport visa change to get a fresh visa without a long trip home.
Validity, Stay, and Cost: Government Fee vs Agency Package
When you compare prices, keep the government fee and the agency package separate. They are different numbers.
| Visa | Stay | GDRFA government fee (AED) | Dubai Tour Visa package (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-day single entry | 30 days | 200 + 5% VAT | 100 |
| 60-day single entry | 60 days | 300 + 5% VAT | 170 |
| 60-day multiple entry | See permit | See GDRFA | 280 |
| Tourist visa extension (inside UAE) | Adds days | 600 + VAT, plus inside-country fees | Quote on request |
Government fees are from the GDRFA service pages (8 October 2026). Package prices are from the dubaitourvisa.com product cards on the same date. The package covers application handling, document checks, and support. Prices can change, so the product page shows the live price. For a full breakdown, read our Dubai visa price 2026 guide.
Which Visa Should You Choose Based on Validity and Stay?
- Trip under 30 days, one entry: 30-day single-entry visa.
- Trip of 31–60 days: 60-day single-entry visa. Don't buy a 30-day visa and hope to extend it.
- Side trips to Oman or elsewhere and back: a multiple-entry visa.
- Passing through within 48 or 96 hours: a transit visa may be cheaper. See the Dubai transit visa guide.
- You may not need a visa at all. Many nationalities get visa-free entry or a visa on arrival. Check the Dubai visa on arrival guide before you pay for anything.

Common Mistakes With Dubai Visa Validity and Stay
- Reading "valid until" as the exit date. It is the entry deadline. This is the most common mistake.
- Applying too early. If the visa is issued eight weeks before travel and your flight slips, the entry window can close before you fly. Apply about 2–4 weeks before departure.
- Booking a return flight on day 31. Count the entry day as day 1.
- Assuming a grace period. Tourist visas have no automatic grace days after the stay ends.
- Leaving and re-entering on a single-entry visa. The visa is used up when you exit.
Sources and How We Checked This Page
We checked this guide against the GDRFA Dubai tourist visa and extension service pages (gdrfad.gov.ae), the ICP fee and fines information (icp.gov.ae), and the UAE government portal (u.ae) in October 2026. Fees and labels change. If anything you see on the official sites differs from this page, the official page is correct, and we review this article at least every 90 days.
